We are your lifeline.
We are here for the person who has just found a lump; the individual whose partner has just been diagnosed; the daughter who is coping with her increased risk of breast cancer. We are here for the woman who wants to know when to start having regular mammograms; the man who has been diagnosed with breast cancer; the person needing information about breast cancer in any language.
There is much to hope for, even in the face of cancer.
The 24-hour Y-ME National Breast Cancer Hotline is a free, confidential resource for information about breast cancer and support. It is the only 24-hour hotline staffed by trained peer counselors who are breast cancer survivors. These peer counselors are experienced in handling all types of questions related to breast cancer, and can talk with you about your feelings and concerns. They will make sure your questions are answered and give you the information you need in plain language.
Peer counselors can match you with a survivor who had a similar diagnosis or life experiences. You'll be able to talk with someone who really understands your concerns--a woman or man who has been there.
Each month, we spotlight a different Y-ME Hotline peer counselor, sharing with you inspiring descriptions of those who staff our 24-hour Hotline. Read the profiles.
Y-ME offers interpreters in 150 languages on the Hotline. Simply call the Hotline and state the desired language in English (e.g. "Polish"). The peer counselor then contacts Language Line Services and requests an interpreter who joins the call to facilitate communication. For more information on this service, view the spring 2003 issue of Lifeline (.pdf).
The Partner's Match Program provides support and education for people who are supporting a wife, partner, mother, daughter or friend through breast cancer. Simply call the Hotline and ask to leave a message for the Partner's Match Program volunteer who will return your call as soon as possible. For more information on supporting a loved one through breast cancer, read our brochure, When the Woman You Love Has Breast Cancer (.pdf).
If you are a man with breast cancer, call the Y-ME Hotline and be matched with a male breast cancer survivor.
